The City of Coral Springs is gearing up to celebrate the International Day of Peace with a series of events designed to foster unity and understanding within the community. The main event, an annual ceremony hosted by the City of Coral Springs in collaboration with the Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee and the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs, Parkland, and NW Broward, will take place on September 20 at 8 a.m. at the local International Peace Garden located at 2855 Coral Springs Drive.

Participants will hear from community leaders and students, who are expected to deliver speeches and perform musically and artistically. "Celebrating the International Day of Peace reminds us that it is our shared responsibility to not only promote justice, equality, and understanding within our community, but also to reject violence and conflict worldwide," Nancy Metayer Bowen, City Commissioner, and Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee Liaison, said in a statement obtained by the city's news release.

Residents eager to express their wish for global harmony can engage in various activities such as taking a Peace Day Pledge, creating an Imagine Peace Wish Tree by hanging a 'wish for peace tag' on a tree or placing Pinwheels for Peace in their yards. Additionally, the city encourages wearing white on "Peace Across Broward Day," and performing random acts of kindness toward others.

The International Day of Peace, observed each year on September 21, is a day designated by the United Nations in 1981 to encourage peace amid global differences. The Coral Springs event, unique to this community, is part of a larger array of celebrations happening worldwide. To participate, residents can download templates for the pinwheel or tree tag, and find details about how to share their peace pledges and pictures by emailing Lydia Cutz at [email protected] or by using the hashtag #CS4Peace on Instagram and Facebook. The Peace Garden is conveniently located outside the Center for the Arts, furthermore, participation in the event is free. For more information, individuals can call 954-344-1063.
