The City of Garland is reeling following a devastating shooting incident in a business parking lot. 30-year-old Gema Rostran was tragically killed amidst what began as a disturbance escalating into a violent altercation involving multiple individuals on Sunday.
Authorities have identified the shooter as 23-year-old Sergio Nicolas Jaramillo Jr. of Dallas, who, according to the Garland Police Department, not only was involved in the initial confrontation but subsequently discharged a firearm after a disturbance in the parking lot, which led to Rostran's death and two other individuals being wounded, though they are expected to make full recoveries.
The fatal event occurred in the early hours of Sunday, whereby responding officers found the wounded victims at the 2600 block of West Walnut Street, as initially reported by the Garland Police.
Following the incident, arrest warrants were issued for Jaramillo. He turned himself in to police custody early Tuesday morning, without incident. The suspect now faces charges including the murder of Ms. Rostran and two counts of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. He is being held at the Garland Detention Center currently, where no bond has yet been set for these first-degree felonies.
