Tragedy struck in the early hours of July 27 when a shooting on the 100 block of Laureland Road resulted in injuries to five individuals and ultimately claimed the life of Devon Lewis, age 28. Responding officers, upon arriving at the scene shortly after 4:30 am, found that the shooting occurred outside a business, where the injured were quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment, as reported by the Dallas Police Department.
A Dallas Police officer joined the victims in casualty, suffering a non-life-threatening injury during the response to the incident and later being treated and released from the hospital. Despite the swift action by law enforcement, the subsequent days saw one man succumb to his wounds, with the Dallas Police Homicide being notified of Lewis's passing yesterday.
The remaining victims, a 35-year-old woman, and a 21-year-old man, continue their recovery in the hospital. The police investigation points to the shooting being a targeted act, carried out by three adult black male suspects. As of now, the suspects remain unidentified, and the case, documented under number 114677-2024, lacks any arrests.
Authorities are reaching out to the community for assistance. Detective Frank Serra, overseeing the case, urges "Anyone with information is asked to contact" him directly at 214-662-4552 or via email at [email protected].
