A pedestrian was left in critical condition following a collision with a Dallas Police squad car on Elam Road last night. According to the Dallas Police Department, the incident took place at around 7:07 p.m. in the 8700 block of Elam Road.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the officer was responding to a call heading east on Elam Road without the vehicle's emergency lights and siren being used. It was reported that a female pedestrian, who had been standing in the median, attempted to cross the street and ran into the path of the turning vehicles. She entered the far-left lane, directly into the trajectory of the oncoming squad car. The officer involved in the collision administered first aid until additional medical assistance arrived and transported the woman to the hospital.
There has been no report of injuries sustained by the officer. The Dallas Police have indicated that an investigation into the crash is active and that the case has been documented under number 119809-2924. At this time, the conditions leading up to the accident, including the decision-making involved in the officer's response to the initial call, are being scrutinized.
