A tragic incident occurred in Whitfield County where a woman was found beaten to death with a rock. The body of Luz Divina Ramirez, aged 50, was discovered under a bridge near railroad tracks at the intersection of Willowdale Road and Crow Valley Road. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office stated that on August 21 they performed a welfare check where they found Ramirez deceased. Upon examining the scene, they uncovered multiple blows to her head and face were inflicted using a large rock.
The investigation led deputies to Fred Edward Sherman, Jr., a 54-year-old man from Dalton, who was quickly identified as the suspect. Deputies having been called to the scene, found the victim concealed under some blankets, as described in a NewsChannel 9 report. Evidences at the scene, which pointed towards Sherman, were left behind several items. During questioning, Sherman "admitted to assaulting Ramirez with a rock, which caused her death," as the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office release states.
Following the confession, Sherman has been taken into custody and charged with murder. There could be more charges on the way with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) now joining the case and aiding the Sheriff's Office in what has become an ongoing and deepening inquiry.
