The Birch Aquarium has rolled out a fresh way for adventurers to dip their toes into oceanic exploration. They're bundling aquarium visits with Outdoor Adventure activities, which means you can score a discount and a double dose of nature.
The deal includes two unique experiences. First up, starting August 30, are the Sunset Scripps Pier Walks. These are not your average strolls along the beach. Think exclusive access to the typically off-limits Scripps Pier, complete with hands-on science demos and talks about local shark research. "Exploring the outdoors can feel daunting sometimes, but our Outdoor Adventures can be a great way to get your feet wet — both literally and figuratively!" Matthew Arrollado, Public Programs Coordinator, told the Birch Aquarium newsroom. But remember, there's a bit of a catch: kids and adults must be 9 or older to join, and you'd better snag your tickets early — these tours are notorious for selling out.
The second part of this ocean lovers' special comes with Tidepooling Adventures, kicking off even earlier on November 2. Bundle up and trek down to the local tidepools, where tiny ocean critters make their homes amidst slippery rocks and shallow waters. It’s a 90-minute guided foray where you'll likely spot some of the most elusive creatures of the intertidal zone. Those interested should mark their calendars for October when tickets go up for grabs. This time around, the age limit drops to 3 years old, so long as a paying adult is accompanying the little explorers.
If you've got an itch for unique marine education, the Sunset Scripps Pier Walks and the Tidepooling Adventures could be your jam.
