A tragic incident unfolded in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea when a diver was found deceased in the waters off the coast. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed they are currently investigating the case after receiving a 911 call reporting a possible drowning near 100 Palm Avenue late Friday night. Local10 reported that the call came in shortly before 11 p.m.
Deputies, along with the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, responded quickly only to discover the diver lifeless in the ocean. To better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, the BSO’s Dive Team was also dispatched and subsequently recovered the man’s body. Carey Codd, a BSO spokesman, revealed to Local10 that foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation.
The identity of the diver remains undisclosed, with the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office set to determine the official cause and manner of the diver's passing. As is often the case in such sudden and somber events, the community awaits answers, hoping to find some semblance of understanding in the face of loss.
