A quiet neighborhood in Dublin was disrupted yesterday afternoon when a man was fatally shot at the Emerald Park Apartment complex. Dublin Police Services were called to the scene at 5050 Hacienda Drive around 2:21 p.m. to find an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to his head, according to a Dublin Police statement. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, and no suspect has been apprehended as the investigation continues.
Residents could not return to their homes as authorities searched for the suspect. Complicating the day further, nearby Dougherty Elementary School was also placed under lockdown as a precaution. The school's restrictions were lifted shortly before 4 p.m., as reported by ABC7 News. Despite the ongoing investigation, police indicate no evident threat to public safety.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released to the public. This incident adds to a relatively low number of homicides reported in the city over the past decade, with only four occurring since 2014 prior to this event.
"I was just shocked, because we are normally a quiet community and living close to an elementary school. I never really thought we'd have that incident happen here," Sandra Cardenas, a three-year resident of Emerald Park, told ABC7 News.
