An Eastpointe man, Steven Frank Kolson Jr., has been arraigned and is facing first-degree premeditated murder charges after the alleged death of his wife, 43-year-old April Vitale. According to ClickOnDetroit, the 41-year-old was involved in a fatal altercation with Vitale last Saturday, where she was reportedly strangled to death.
During his arraignment, Kolson's bond was set at $5 million cash/surety, as reported by CBS News Detroit. If he is to be released, he will be required to wear a steel cuff GPS tether and be confined to his home. Moreover, he has been ordered to not have any contact with either the victim's family or any witnesses to the event. His probable cause conference is scheduled to happen on Aug. 13, with a preliminary examination following on Aug. 20.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, headed by Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, has highlighted the case as an example of the critical need to intensively combat domestic violence within the community. "This tragic case underscores the urgent need to address and stop domestic violence", said Lucido, as per WWJ Newsradio 950. "We must work together as a community to protect the vulnerable and prevent such senseless acts of violence".
