In a rather unexpected collision, a car, reportedly driven by an elderly woman, backed into the Perfumes 4 U store in Miami, causing substantial damage to the storefront. The incident, captured on surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News, unfolded along Northwest 20th Street near 17th Avenue. The footage shows the driver accelerating in reverse, bumping over a concrete barrier post before hitting the store, then surging forward to strike a pole and halting in the middle of the street.
While reversing out of a parking spot on Tuesday, the driver caused more trouble by accidentally overturning a street sign after driving over a curb. The owner of the damaged store told Local 10 News that the driver waited for police to arrive, displaying a strange sense of calm amidst the wreckage they left behind.
Additional footage from inside the store, as revealed in a video by WSVN, showcased the vehicle breaking through the front door and glass, sending merchandise flying. The owner, who was nearby at the time of the crash, confirmed to WSVN that aside from the property damage, no one was injured in the incident. In the interim, the store has been forced to close as it reels from the damages.
Authorities are yet to release further details on any citations or charges that may be brought against the elderly driver. Amidst the shards of glass and toppled suitcases, there's a silver lining — there were no reported injuries, either to the driver or potential customers, thanks in part to what could be considered a stroke of luck given the store's closure at the time of the accident.
