In a concerning incident at Smoketree Elementary School in Lake Havasu City, school authorities found a firearm in the possession of an elementary school student on the afternoon of Tuesday. Lake Havasu City Police Department reported that officers were called to the scene at approximately 2:43 p.m. following the discovery.
The investigation concluded that the young student unearthed the gun while helping family members clear out a storage unit and brought it to school with the intention to show it off to peers. Despite the gravity of the situation, officials assured that no threats were made, and the firearm was not loaded with live ammunition at the time nor was any ammunition found with the juvenile.
There is presently no ongoing threat posed to students or the community due to this incident. Following protocol, the case involving the minor is set to be reviewed by the Mohave County Juvenile Probation Department to determine whether charges will be filed. On the educational front, Smoketree Elementary School is addressing the issue through its internal disciplinary measures.
