The search for justice in the killing of Las Vegas journalist Jeff German has begun with the trial of Robert Telles, an El Paso native. Telles, the former Clark County public administrator, is accused of fatally stabbing German, allegedly blaming him for his professional and personal issues. According to KVIA, jury selection for the trial began on Monday.
German, who was 69 years old when he died, was found outside his home, having been violently attacked. Police stated that DNA evidence from Telles' home linked him to the crime scene, leading to his arrest and continued detention without bail. Unfortunately, German was the only journalist killed in the U.S. in 2022, as highlighted by data from the Committee to Protect Journalists, per WTRF.
Telles has maintained his innocence since his arrest and is prepared to tell his side of the story. Clark County prosecutors have not commented publicly, but District Attorney Steve Wolfson, who knew German, has expressed a commitment to seeking justice, stating that the state aims to achieve this for Jeff and his family.
German's colleagues feel the significant impact of the case, with his investigative work into Telles' office now potentially linked to his murder. According to ABC7NY, upon hearing of German's death, Reid immediately suspected Telles. The sheriff noted the unusual nature of this case, especially given its profound implications involving a journalist.
