In the early hours of Wednesday, a devastating two-car collision took place on Canyon Road East, leading to an intense fire "where both vehicles had burst into flames", according to an official report from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blotter.
First responders, including deputies and firefighters, arrived to find the vehicles fully ablaze and after extinguishing the flames, tragically discovered that neither driver had survived the incident.
The collision forced the closure of Canyon Road East and 160th Street while traffic investigators worked the scene to unravel what had transpired, eyewitnesses shared they witnessed the suspect's vehicle engaging in what seemed to be a reckless attempt to race other cars far south on the same road before the crash, and one alarmed caller reported seeing the vehicle speeding at a harrowing 130 miles per hour, as per the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
