Antioch residents were jolted yesterday when a residential condominium caught fire, thrusting the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District into action. The incident saw firefighters from Engine 82 and Engine 83 responding to the scene after observing smoke from afar. The blaze, which had taken hold of the middle unit in a condominium complex, was already belching heavy smoke and flames upon their arrival, as reported by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
They embarked on an offensive attack against the fire, securing a water source and performing a 360-degree survey of the building. They confirmed the complete evacuation of residents before hoses were run and strategies were enacted. Amid their efforts, AMR Contra Costa County transported one resident to safety.
The fire department's swift intervention also saw the rescue of one dog. And yet, one other dog was found deceased. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with the middle unit where the fire began being the focal point for the authorities' probe into the origins of the disaster.
