In Franklin, Tennessee, a traffic officer has been awarded for his exceptional work in protecting the lives of the youngest in the community. Officer Joe LeCates of the Franklin Police Department was named the Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) on Wednesday, an accolade highlighting his dedication to child passenger safety.
LeCates has made it his mission to directly impact the well-being of children on the road, going above and beyond to deeply educate caregivers on the correct use of car seats. His initiatives over the last year included the hosting of six car seat check events at local daycares and preschools, according to the City of Franklin. This work wasn't part of some grandstanding display of duty; rather, it was a testament to a career of quiet dedication. LeCates has served over 13 years with the Franklin Police Department.
Delivering on his commitment, LeCates personally inspected more than 135 car seats in the past year alone. His interaction wasn't just about checking the buckles and straps but also ensuring that caregivers were to competently continue installing the seats by themselves – a move that likely reduced the risk of child injuries in vehicular incidents.
