Franklin Police Chief Deb Faulkner has been honored with the Chief Joe Casey Award, a recognition that has deep personal significance for her. The award, distributed by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP), is bestowed annually to a police chief who demonstrates outstanding service characterized by character, effort, and dedication.
Last Friday, Chief Faulkner, who became the Franklin Police Department's leader in 2014, was presented with the accolade, named in honor of a man she holds in high esteem. "Metro Police Chief Joe D. Casey hired me, encouraged me, and inspired me to always love the rule of law, the people I serve, the law enforcement profession, and my fellow officers," Faulkner shared, according to a recent announcement on the City of Franklin's official website.
Before her tenure in Franklin, Faulkner shattered glass ceilings as Tennessee's first Inspector General. Her career also includes over three decades of dedicated service with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), where she came up through the ranks, concluding her time there as a Deputy Chief. Alongside her extensive law enforcement experience, Faulkner's academic achievements include a bachelor's degree in Journalism, a master's in Criminal Justice, and a doctorate in Human Development Counseling.
Faulkner's commitment to leadership and education stands firmly reflected in her resume. She has not only graduated from esteemed programs like Leadership Franklin and the FBI National Academy but has also managed to serve as a past president of the Tennessee Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates. She has also extended her knowledge as an adjunct faculty member at various universities, "I have been blessed to be a member of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known—the thin blue line," Faulkner noted, as mentioned in the city's news release.
The Chief Joe Casey Award not only acknowledges Chief Faulkner's illustrious career but also cements her legacy within the community she has vowed to serve and protect. Her commitment to law enforcement, her academic contributions, and her mentorship initiatives stand as a testament to the values she has worked to uphold throughout her career.
