An investigation is underway in Jackson, Georgia, after a fatal shooting occurred at a local event in the early hours of July 14. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 44-year-old Jason Maughon was killed, and two others were injured during the incident on Peoples Road.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting at approximately 1:00 a.m., where they found Maughon with gunshot wounds after the GBI was requested to take over the investigation no arrests have yet been made in the ongoing case. Maughon was transported to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead, the GBI took his body to their Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur for an autopsy to determine the specifics of his demise.

Two additional victims of the shooting were treated for injuries deemed non-life-threatening. The GBI hasn’t released further details on the nature of the event where the shooting took place or the potential motives behind the incident.

The GBI is actively seeking information from the public and has encouraged anyone who may know something about the shooting to come forward, tips can be submitted anonymously by different means, including calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), utilizing their online tip submission form, or by downloading their See Something, Send Something mobile app. Once the investigation reaches its conclusion, the Butts County District Attorney’s Office will review the case for prosecution.
