The GBI's involvement follows a request from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, and it has been confirmed that no officers were injured during the events leading up to Purvis Jr.'s death.

The situation began with a 911 call about a domestic dispute at a residence on Sudie Pearl Jones Road. Purvis Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene and will undergo an autopsy at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office. Both the stabbing victim and the victim's father were hospitalized following the altercation.
