The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Calhoun, GA, as confirmed by an official press release. At the heart of this case is a 55-year-old local woman, Michelle Ralstons, who sustained injuries from a gunshot during a response by deputies from the Gordon County Sheriff's Office to a domestic dispute reported on Friday night.
According to the GBI, deputies were informed by the 911 caller, away from the scene, that Ralstons might be armed when they arrived at her residence on Erwin Hill Church Road. While attempting to persuade her to surrender, a shooting occurred. The specific circumstances leading to the deputy's weapon discharge have not been disclosed.
Following the incident, Ralstons was given immediate medical attention by the responding officers and later transported to a local hospital to treat her non-life-threatening injury; a firearm was then discovered at the scene by the authorities.
As per protocol, the GBI will continue to investigate to ascertain the events and actions that led to the shooting. Once their inquiry is complete, the findings will be presented to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office for a thorough evaluation and determination of the next legal steps.
