
The Gilroy Police Department apprehended a suspect who attempted to evade capture after crashing a vehicle. The incident unfolded on Tuesday when a man was driving a blue Volvo recklessly after being signaled to stop by a patrol officer. According to the Gilroy Police Department, the car's license plate had been reported as stolen, sparking the chase.
The pursuit stopped when the suspect crashed on the 6700 block of Alexander Street. “The driver of the car failed to pull over and instead tried to drive away”, shared the Gilroy Police Department. Officers reportedly witnessed the man discard a loaded gun during his flight, an item they later recovered. Fortunately, the arresting officers were able to safely detain the suspect without causing any injury to themselves or bystanders.
Gilroy police praised the collective effort that went into the chase and capture. “Dispatchers worked throughout the call to ensure officers were kept safe, and the patrol team worked together quickly to safely resolve the call”, the Gilroy Police Department posted.
