The City of Goodyear has made public its search for a partner to help build and manage an expansive new sports complex, with the aim to bolster the city's recreational facilities and cater to its burgeoning population. With a vision to create a center that both residents can enjoy and that can host sports teams for tournaments, Goodyear is keeping tabs on potential collaborators until the September 6 deadline. According to ABC15, the complex is projected to sprawl over 130 acres and may feature a variety of facilities, including 15 soccer and multi-use turf fields, 48 pickleball courts, among other amenities.
In what could become a phased development plan, Goodyear is assessing to first invest around $65 million, a move which would establish six fields, a pickleball facility complete with 48 courts, and necessary infrastructures such as offices and restrooms. According to a statement obtained by ConnectCRE, subsequent phases would see the addition of more fields and facilities, tallying the entire cost to approximately $130 million. Goodyear's population has seen a significant increase of over 15% in just four years, now exceeding 100,000 residents, a growth spurt that underlines the need for expanded community facilities.
The project's location is strategically selected, poised along a stretch of Interstate 10 on either side of Litchfield Road, on land owned by the city. It's a spot that promises easy access, ensuring that the complex could serve not only residents but also attract visitors from beyond the city limits. The city's proposal also leaves room for flexibility, ready to entertain other recreational uses for the space apart from the initially proposed soccer fields and pickleball courts.
