Plans for an upcoming runway rehabilitation at the Grand Canyon National Park Airport are set to be discussed at an open house event, slated for Tuesday, September 10. The public will have the chance to engage with the project team from 4-6 p.m. at the airport's location, 750 Airport Drive, or 1542 Liberator Drive as per Google Maps.

As reported by AZDOT, the projected construction date is July 14, 2025, which will close the runway for approximately 35 days. Key airport figures and project stakeholders will be available to provide detailed information on the $15 million project, designed to bolster safety and the efficiency of airport operations.

The open house will not showcase formal presentations but will make use of informational boards to describe the scope of work, which includes a 3-inch mill and overlay on 75 feet of the runway center section and several infrastructure improvements. These include reconfiguring a known taxi hotspot, decommissioning Taxiway A, upgrading Taxiway B, and refreshing taxiway indicators and signs.

"We’re committed to ensuring the airport remains a safe, efficient, and reliable gateway to one of the nation’s most treasured destinations," said Airport Director Warren Smith. Additional works, such as a seal coat or an extended mill and overlay along the runway's edges, may be factored in if budget permits and bids for the basic work come in under the expected financial threshold.

Funding for the considerable runway project is sourced primarily from a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program grant, supplemented by state matching funds. The importance of this undertaking underscores the Grand Canyon National Park Airport's significance as an integral hub for tourism and aviation in Arizona.
