The Hawaiʻi Island Police Department have issued a renewed plea for public assistance to find 58-year-old Randy Smith of Pahoa, reported missing since July 1. Seen last in the Kalapana area of Pahoa at around 5:00 p.m. on that day, details about Smith's appearance have been widely circulated in hopes of someone recognizing him.
According to the information provided by the Hawai‘i Police Department, Smith is a Caucasian male with a fair complexion, stands at 5-feet 10-inches tall, and weighs approximately 195 pounds. With brown eyes and short graying/brown hair that's balding, his physical description is specific in the efforts to aid the public in identifying him. Anyone with a fair complexion and that physical frame, one might easily mistake another local for Randy, given the prevalence of these features within the Pahoa community.
The Hawai‘i Police Department have poured efforts into locating Smith and have been combing through the area where he was last sighted. They are urging anyone who has seen Smith or has any relevant information to come forward. The case is being handled by Detective Kimo Keli’ipa’akaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section, who can be directly contacted for any significant leads.
To ensure a broad outreach, local authorities have been utilizing various media channels including online platforms like Nixle to update the community on Smith's disappearance. "Police ask anyone who may have information about Smith’s whereabouts to please call Detective Kimo Keli’ipa’akaua," as quoted by the Hawai‘i Police Department notice. In the sea of faces that grace the everyday bustle of Pahoa, the hope is that the image of Smith—a man described as Caucasian, sporting a common hair type and body build—will spark recognition among the townspeople and bring more clues to light.
