Hazel Crest police department has called on the community for assistance in solving a recent tragedy where a young woman lost her life in a cruel succession of hit-and-runs. The incident, which claimed the life of Tamia Costello, a 22-year-old woman from Harvey, is under thorough investigation after she was struck by two vehicles on a local street.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, the first distress call reached the police late at night on Thursday, near the intersection of 173rd Street and Kedzie Avenue. Witnesses at the scene described the first vehicle involved as a white SUV, which continued northbound without stopping. Moments later, while well-meaning bystanders sought to alert oncoming traffic, a second vehicle, a black sedan, also failed to heed their attempts to prevent further harm, hitting the already injured woman a second time.
According to details shared by the Chicago Tribune, Costello, who was discovered unresponsive and suffering significant injuries, was promptly attended by both officers and witnesses until paramedics arrived and transported her to Advocate South Suburban Hospital. Her battle for survival ended three days later when she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, August 4.
"Those with information that could help authorities in their investigation are asked to contact the Hazel Crest Police Department at 708-335-9640," as stated by WGN TV.
