Early Thursday morning, fire crews faced a dire situation in Citrus Heights where a duplex was engulfed in flames. According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District's Facebook post, there were reports of a disabled individual trapped inside the house. Firefighters mounted an aggressive response, making their way through the home to extinguish the fire and locate the person in distress.
Rescue 21 performed a pinpointed search which successfully led to the discovery of the victim in a back bedroom, who was promptly extricated through a window. As reported by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the individual was then transported to a burn center and is currently stable after sustaining critical injuries. Running into the flames, another person sustained injuries while attempting to combat the fire before the arrival of the professional crews, and they were treated at the scene.
The fire crews did not only save human lives but also managed to rescue a dog from the clutches of the blaze. The fire was successfully contained to the originating unit, and as of now, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the authorities.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District wants everyone to be prepared for fires. They recommend having a fire escape plan that includes two ways out of each room and practicing it every month. Make sure to check your smoke alarms regularly. If there’s a fire, let dispatchers know the ages and locations of anyone inside the building, as this helps firefighters. The District responds to over 100,000 emergency calls a year to keep people and pets safe.
