To proactively address the threat of potential flooding from Tropical Wave Invest 97L, Hillsborough County has begun to distribute sandbags to its residents. The county's preparations are aimed at providing locals with the means to protect their property against the forecasted weather conditions which may bring significant rainfall and subsequent flooding issues in the region.
Commencing today, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and continuing tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., sandbags will be made available at four designated locations throughout the county. These measures are a part of a larger effort by county officials to quickly mobilize resources and to enable residents to effectively prepare themselves for what the weather may unfold. Each family is allocated a maximum of 10 sandbags and must present an ID proving residency in Hillsborough County, with a driver's license accepted as suitable identification. The county has communicated that these facilities will be solely used for sandbag operations and will not be open to the general public during this time.
Residents can pick up sandbags at the following locations: Edward Medard Conservation Park, E.G. Simmons Conservation Park, Ed Radice Sports Complex, and Larry Sanders Sports Complex. This initiative underscores the urgency with which Hillsborough County is responding to the situation, as local authorities seek to diminish the potential impact of the tropical weather system on the community. Additionally, officials are urging citizens to stay informed on the developments of the tropical wave and any other significant weather alerts.
The county encourages individuals to visit Hillsborough County, Florida Government to sign up for the HCFL Alert system, a critical tool for receiving timely updates and instructions. It's important for the residents to stay connected and to proactively prepare rather than to find themselves reacting too late to rising waters. Amidst the preparations, social media platforms also remain a valuable source for updates and the county can be followed for ongoing information and assistance during this period.
