In a city often besieged by the high cost and scarcity of parking, Hollywood has offered a temporary respite for its residents this weekend. According to an announcement from the city's official website, parking fees will be suspended in the two City-operated downtown Hollywood garages. The move comes as a measure to assist residents in low-lying areas amid concerns over flooding and extreme weather events.

The fee waiver became effective at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2nd, and will remain in place until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4. Hollywood's gesture comes as a relief to those who are often obliged to move their vehicles to higher ground to avoid the damage sustained during such events. The garages included in the suspension are Van Buren Garage located at 251 S 20th Ave and Radius Garage at 251 N 19th Ave.

This relief is specifically earmarked for Hollywood residents, a provision clearly outlined by the city. Those looking to take advantage of the free parking must bring proof of Hollywood residency, as free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Any commercial trucks or fleet vehicles will find no reprieve here; the exemption applies strictly to personal vehicles. And though the cost is waived, the rules are not. As stated by city officials, "All vehicles must be parked legally in marked spaces" and any vehicles parked illegally or causing obstructions "will be ticketed and could be towed," as per the announcement from the city's official website.

There’s a catch for beachgoers hoping to snag a piece of this parking grace—City-operated garages on Hollywood Beach are not included in this weekend’s reprieve. Standard parking fees will persist at both the Garfield Street and Nebraska Street garages. As Sunday evening approaches, residents must reclaim their vehicles by the deadline of 8:00 p.m. to avoid the standard parking rate fees.
