Authorities in Coffee County, Middle Tennessee, are currently investigating after human remains were discovered by an individual inspecting their trail cameras. As reported by FOX 17, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene near Vaughn Speckleton Road, close to the railroad tracks, yesterday afternoon following the grisly find.
While information remains sparse, the remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner (ME) for identification. The sheriff's department conveyed that the incident is "not" being investigated as a homicide, "but a possible Natural Caused Death," as per FOX 17. Investigations to positively seek to identify the remains are underway, with the ME's office spearheading this effort.
In a separate report, WKRN detailed that the discovery was made on Sunday, August 25, and upon locating the remains, a variety of personnel, including Coffee County Sheriff’s Investigators, members from the Manchester Police Department, and the Coffee County EMS Director, processed the scene.
The community has been left with questions and concerns pending the official identification and cause of death. The Sheriff’s Office and Manchester Police Department, together with the State Medical Examiner’s Office, are working to piece together the circumstances that led to this person's death and will provide more information as the investigation advances.
