As Hurricane Debby barreled toward Florida, bringing along a potent mix of strong winds, rain, and chaos, CVG faced a wave of disruptions this weekend. According to WLWT, over 60% of all departing flights from CVG were delayed as of yesterday evening.
With the storm strengthening to a Category 1 hurricane by 11 p.m. yesterday, cancellations cut swathes through the scheduled departures board. Flights destined not only for Florida and Georgia but to cities like New York and Detroit saw cancellations, as seen by WLWT. Prepared to embark on what promised to be an adventure to the Amazons in Peru, Carol Hartman of Fairfield said, "We're not happy campers at the moment. We're heading on a girls trip to the Amazons in Peru. And we thought that was going to be an adventure. But it's starting, like, at the airport", told WLWT.
Today did little to improve matters, as Cincinnati.com reported continued delays and cancellations at the airport. According to the airport's website, as of 7:30 a.m., 12 flights were canceled, and 16 were delayed. The situation has particularly impacted passengers traveling to airports such as La Guardia, John F. Kennedy, Orlando, Key West, Punta Gorda, St. Petersburg, and Savannah.
Travelers are facing disruptions across several major airlines. Among them, United Airlines, Allegiant Air, Delta, American Airlines, and Frontier Airlines have all reported cancellations or delays. As functional arteries of our sky-bound transit system, these carriers feel the immediate ripple effects of the storm's passage. The hurricane's landfall, as reported by FOX19, has been the culprit behind the widespread disarray in air travel as heavy rainfall and floods assail the Southeast region.
