Following an early morning crash on Interstate 95 that resulted in significant traffic delays, the southbound lanes of the highway in Broward County have been reopened. The collision occurred near the exit for State Road 824/Pembroke Road, as reported by NBC Miami. Motorists experienced backups spanning from Hollywood Boulevard to Ives Dairy Road since approximately 6 a.m. this morning.
While the traffic has now resumed its flow on I-95 southbound, an alternative pathway was earlier suggested, including U.S. 441, the Florida Turnpike, and U.S. 1. The details regarding injuries, if any, were not released at the time of reopening. Additionally, an unrelated tractor-trailer fire also added to the traffic disturbances on Interstate 75 in Broward County, which too has been cleared.
In a separate incident on the same interstate, but in Riviera Beach, northbound lanes were shut down following a fatal crash that happened at about 3:30 a.m. near the Blue Heron Boulevard exit. According to WPTV, the incident led to extensive backups extending at least to Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach for several hours.
The congestion on northbound I-95 persisted until the lanes were finally cleared and reopened around 9:15 a.m., thus, restoring the traffic flow to normal. Travelers using the interstate throughout this region faced significant delays as a result of the two accidents, however, all restrictions have now been removed and normal traffic patterns are expected to resume.
