Last night, a tragic incident occurred in Imperial Beach. A woman lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident. The collision occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on the 1100 block of Connecticut Street, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Department reports.

Imperial Beach Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene to discover the victim, a pedestrian, injured and on the ground. Despite the paramedics' immediate response and attempts to save her life, the woman succumbed to her injuries. An ongoing investigation pointed to a red Chevrolet Camaro, distinct with a black racing pinstripe, as the likely involved vehicle.

Deputies located the suspect's Camaro on the 700 block of Oneonta Avenue through aerial support from a Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter. Eric Cox, born on July 13, 1962, was identified as both owner and vehicle driver. He was subsequently arrested and now faces charges of manslaughter, felony driving under the influence with injury, and felony hit-and-run leading to great bodily injury or death.

While the Medical Examiner's Office has yet to release the identity of the victim pending family notification, they are expected to determine the exact cause and manner of the death. Meanwhile, the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation urges anyone with additional information to call (619) 498-2400.
