An overnight confrontation following a car accident on Chicago's Southwest Side led to gunfire that left an innocent bystander wounded. A 19-year-old woman was hit by bullets when at least three men discharged weapons after a collision involving multiple vehicles, as reported by The Chicago Tribune.
The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. when a white Dodge Caravan, headed north on California Avenue, struck a gray Honda, reported stolen, and a black Tesla, as detailed by the Chicago Tribune. The men, emerging from the Dodge, unleashed a barrage of shots at the gray sedan before taking off on foot, fleeing the scene. The unintended victim, caught in the crossfire while walking nearby, sustained injuries to the shoulder and torso and was rushed to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was later stated to be in good condition.
Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event with no other injuries reported at the scene, as per the Chicago Tribune.
According to CWB Chicago, a source familiar with the investigation has tied the Dodge Caravan to a man who was shot months prior on the Northwest Side and is currently incarcerated, awaiting trial for gun-related charges. Adding to the evidentiary trail, a pistol was also retrieved at the scene of the post-collision chaos.
