Deerfield Beach is calling for volunteers to join in a beach cleanup effort this August, aimed at preserving the beauty of our coastal paradise. The event, a merger of environmental activism and education, offering an opportunity to learn about the pervasive impact of plastic on our ecosystem and our own health, as reported on the City of Deerfield Beach official website.
The cleanup is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, August 21, at 4 p.m., right across from the Embassy Suites at 950 S Ocean Dr in Deerfield Beach, FL. In a statement obtained by the City of Deerfield Beach, all materials necessary for the cleanup will be supplied, including gloves, buckets, and water—although participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable items to further reduce waste, and in doing so, will get a chance to win some Deerfield Beach swag in a raffle.
Following the cleanup, the Embassy Suites will host a free screening at 6 p.m. of "We’re All Plastic People Now", an Emmy-winning documentary that reveals the insidious nature of plastic in our environment. Refreshments will be on hand for those attending the film screening, courtesy of the event organizers.
An added incentive, volunteer hours are available for those who choose to give their time to this environmental cause. Furthermore, the first 30 volunteers to check in for the event will also receive a parking pass valid for the duration, making the experience as hassle-free as possible. Should prospective volunteers have any questions or wish to RSVP, the local official from Deerfield Beach, [email protected], is the point of contact.
The event highlights an ongoing community effort to tackle pollution and foster a culture of conservation. Those interested in joining can find more details on the event and environmental initiatives through the City of Deerfield Beach website.
