In a troubling incident at Los Prados Park, San Mateo, a juvenile has been detained following a violent altercation that left two people with stab wounds. According to the San Mateo Police Department, the event unfolded last night when a distress call at 7:56 p.m. alerted authorities to the attack.
Police response was swift, with officers arriving to find the 16-year-old female suspect restrained on the ground by civilians. Despite being ordered to release the weapon, the suspect continued to hold the knife and fiercely resisted arrest, going so far as to bite one of the officers eventually. The knife was ultimately taken from her, and she was handcuffed. The young suspect, a San Mateo resident, now faces a serious string of charges that include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, among others.
The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect confronted one victim while brandishing a knife before attacking. A witness attempted to intervene, only to become the second victim as they both sustained stab wounds to the hands. Their quick action allowed them to subdue the suspect and aid in preventing further harm until police arrived.
Both victims required medical attention and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility. The San Mateo Police Department continues investigating the incident and has called on the public for any additional information.
