The arrest of a kidnapping suspect has been the culmination of a steadfast investigative effort by the Springfield Police's Detective Bureau. On August 20th, Detectives took into custody 31-year-old Raul Arellano at the RSW Regional Jail in Front Royal, Virginia, following a warrant issued in connection to a kidnapping case in Springfield. Originating from a missing person's report on July 28th for a 13-year-old girl who was seen to leave her home early in the morning, Springfield Police were to quickly identify Arellano as a suspect. Collaboration with the State Police was key in tracking down Arellano's vehicle, which was intercepted in Virginia. It has been established that Arellano left his home in Alabama and drove to Springfield after engaging in online communications with the young girl. They had apparently met before in Alabama, where the girl’s primary residence is listed.
Upon Arellano’s arrest, Springfield Detectives returned from Washington, D.C. and transported the individual to Springfield Police Headquarters the following evening. Arellano, a Huntsville, Alabama resident, is facing an arrest warrant charge of kidnapping, as detailed by the police department's statement.
