KoMiCo, a heavyweight in the semiconductor ancillary sector, has inked a purchase agreement to set up a cutting-edge cleaning, coating, and repair facility in Mesa, Arizona. This move closely aligns with the ongoing expansion efforts of industry titans such as Intel and TSMC in the region. The Mesa site will span a notable 12.5 acres and boasts a 125,000-square-foot building, becoming the company's largest U.S. operation, with the doors set to open by 2026 and over 200 jobs on the offering.
The announcement reflects a significant $50 million investment and positions Mesa at the forefront of the semiconductor boom. The facility is expected to feature multiple cleanrooms and an array of advanced equipment as KoMiCo aims to strategically support both current and future fab technologies. Mesa Mayor John Giles welcomed the development, stating, "I'm excited to welcome KoMiCo to Mesa, where they'll play a key role in the emerging semiconductor industry," according to the official city news release. Giles highlighted the synergy of KoMiCo's leading-edge practices with the city's growth and the broader impact on U.S. manufacturing driven by the CHIPS and Science Act.
Shawn Jang, CEO of KoMiCo U.S., underscored the partnership with the city, aiming to elevate Mesa to a pinnacle of technological innovation within the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing landscape. District 6 Councilmember Scott Somers also expressed his enthusiasm for the well-paying advanced technology manufacturing jobs headed to the district and the enhancement to the critical U.S. semiconductor supply chain these jobs represent.
The Mesa facility will be equipped with tools designed to service the most advanced semiconductor technologies, including EUV and sub-1nm tech nodes. As such, it will complement Arizona’s burgeoning reputation as a dynamic hub for semiconductor production, with Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, remarking on the state's escalating global prominence within this critical sector. KoMiCo's commitment to Arizona was reportedly well-received, expected to energize innovation throughout the local supply chain, as Chris Camacho, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, cited in a statement obtained by the city's communication channels.
The company's reach isn't limited to the U.S., as it spans across South Korea, Singapore, China, and Taiwan, servicing some of the most significant fab clusters in the world with cleaning and coating expertise.
