Ambushed while responding to a 911 call, two Lake County deputies were seriously injured, and another was tragically killed. Deputy Harold Howell, shot during the incident, was released from the hospital and is now facing a lengthy recovery. A statement from the Howell family expressed profound thanks for the community's support and asked for continued prayers for both Deputy Howell's and Deputy Stefano Gargano's recovery, as reported by WFTV.
Howell was struck in the arm by gunfire and has since been discharged from the hospital. He also offered his gratitude to his colleagues and community members extending beyond Lake County borders. Meanwhile, Master Deputy Bradley Link was killed in the same shooting, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
Deputy First Class Stefano Gargano, also wounded in the shooting, underwent a fourth surgery and appears to be doing well in his recovery process. The ambush unfolded last Friday when deputies, including Link and Howell, entered a home following a 911 call alleging assault by a resident woman. Upon entry, they were met with gunfire, resulting in multiple casualties including the shooter, identified as Michael Sulpizio, and his two daughters. Julie Sulpizio was arrested in connection to the incident, according to information from the sheriff's office detailed by WESH.
A GoFundMe campaign was established, and a prayer vigil was held in Deputy Link's honor. The Lake County Sheriff's Office used Link's handcuffs and patrol car to arrest and transport Julie Sulpizio, adding a symbolic gesture to the somber task of justice.
