The renaming reflects Mayor Parris's decade-plus efforts to position Lancaster as a leader in renewable energy, including significant investments in solar energy and the creation of Lancaster Energy, a new city division focusing on clean and diverse energy resources like hydrogen and solar.
"Serving this City as mayor has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Mayor Parris stated in an announcement. He credited his success to his family's support, noting, "Their contributions have been pivotal to both my success and the City's progress during these transformative years." Vice Mayor Marvin Crist echoed these sentiments, stressing that the decision to name the center after Mayor Parris was a unanimous one and a testament to his impact on the city's trajectory toward sustainability.
With the Parris Center set to be the first building to fully incorporate hydrogen, electricity, and heat pumps to maintain a zero-carbon footprint, it represents a major leap forward in sustainable infrastructure. The joint venture with ENSO Infrastructure LLC, ENSO Japan, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Ltd. (TEPCO), and support from Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) is expected to showcase a pioneering energy management system utilizing local solar power to produce hydrogen.
