
Mandy Leatherwood Guss, Communications Director for the City of Las Cruces, has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of New Mexico for 2024 by Women We Admire as per City of Las Cruces. The online publication highlighted Guss's achievement in their August 19 issue, applauding her leadership and her tenure as Communications Director since September 2020. Guss has been at the helm of a diverse and talented team, steering the city's communications efforts across various channels including social media, news releases, and a government-access TV channel.
Before her current role, Guss contributed to the City of Las Cruces in various capacities, from Marketing Coordinator for Community and Cultural Services to Business Development Administrator for the City’s Economic Development Department. She also dedicates her expertise as chair of the Junior Leadership Las Cruces program through the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce. These varied experiences have fortified Guss's position as an instrumental figure in her field.
The City’s Communications team, under Guss's leadership, has received a multitude of regional and national accolades, further cementing her reputation as a formidable influencer in public communication. Most recently, the team has been named a finalist for five NATOA Government Programming Awards.
Joining Guss among the ranks of New Mexico's exemplary women leaders are a bevy of distinguished figures including Monica Torres, Delfinia Salazar, Yu-Feng Lee, and Fran Maier. Each has been lauded for their contributions to sectors spanning education, economic development, and technology.
