A Las Cruces man has been handed a 20-year prison sentence for his role in a chilling child exploitation case involving the exchange of thousands of explicit images and videos of minors. Ryan Gallardo, 24, conspired with his cousin Yamil Pillado between April of last year and this year to distribute and receive illicit materials over various digital platforms, the investigation revealed, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

The case, which has rattled the community, was prosecuted after detailed court documents exposed the pair’s exchange of child pornography files. Some of the content included material involving bestiality and sadomasochism, and in their disturbing communications, they described past sexual abuses and plans to victimize minors. In light of these offenses, there is no parole in the federal system, ensuring Gallardo will serve the full two decades behind bars.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Pillado pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and receive child pornography, receiving a sentence of over 17 years, which will be followed by a stringent 20 years of supervised release. Furthermore, both men will be required to register as sex offenders upon their release.

This sentencing, demonstrates the resolve of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners to protect the most vulnerable in our society, said U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez, noting the gravity of Gallardo and Pillado's actions. Also, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations - El Paso Jason T. Stevens emphasized their commitment to bringing those who exploit children to justice, no matter the technology they use to commit these heinous crimes.
