In a sobering reminder of the ever-present dangers on our roads, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Gabriel Drive in Las Vegas, an incident marking the city's 95th traffic fatality this year. According to details released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision occurred on Wednesday afternoon, when a male pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been publicly disclosed, was hit by a 2006 Nissan Titan.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 61-year-old George Miller of Las Vegas, was traveling eastbound when his vehicle tragically ran over the pedestrian, lying for reasons yet unknown near the road's southern edge, emergency responders were called to the scene at around 4:08 p.m., but despite their life-saving attempts the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, amidst this tragedy, Miller remained on site and showed no signs of impairment during the initial investigation.
The Collision Investigation Section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is carefully examining the details of this tragic incident. In the meantime, the community is coping with the loss of yet another life on the streets, bringing this year’s total to 95 deaths.
