Nearly one year after two women were injured by gunfire at a Chicago White Sox game, a lawsuit has been filed against the team. According to CBS News, the plaintiff, identified only as Jane Doe, attended the game on August 25, 2023, when she was hit by a discharged firearm in Guaranteed Rate Field. The lawsuit alleges the White Sox organization was negligent in not properly enforcing its "No Firearms" policy.

The incident, which unfolded during the fourth inning of the game against the Oakland A's, resulted in one woman being shot in the leg and another being grazed in the abdomen. The legal action is seeking upwards of $50,000 for injuries and damages. Despite rumblings to the contrary, attorney John Malm, representing the victim, affirmed to quickly address and "Our client, an innocent attendee, suffered serious injuries as a result of the failure to take proper security measures, we believe," in a statement obtained by CBS News Chicago. The origin of the gunfire, however, remains unclear, with unanswered questions about whether the shots came from within or outside the stadium.

In addition to the baseball team, At Your Service LLC, and The Illinois Sports Facility Authority were also named in the lawsuit. When reached for comment by ABC7 Chicago, a spokesperson from the White Sox responded stating they do not comment on pending litigation.
