Los Angeles County is grappling with the aftermath of a tragic DUI incident that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter in Temple City. Diego Santoscruz is facing murder and additional charges after he allegedly caused a fatal head-on collision while under the influence of alcohol. In a grave development shared by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Santoscruz is now being held responsible for the deaths of Jennifer Argueta and her 10-year-old daughter, Sabrina.
According to the announcement, Santoscruz (dob 11/13/96) is charged with two counts each of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury. The accident occurred on August 17, when the victim’s vehicle was struck head-on near Temple City Boulevard and Gidley Street, with Santoscruz behind the wheel of the offending car.
District Attorney George Gascón expressed the community's distress, saying, "This tragedy serves as a stark and heartbreaking reminder of the severe consequences that come with driving under the influence." He further assured about the commitment of his office to obtaining justice, "Our office is committed to ensuring that the individual responsible for this horrific incident is held fully accountable for their actions." The District Attorney's Bureau of Victim Services is also offering support to the affected family during this profoundly difficult period.
While the child’s father, who was driving when the crash happened, survived with injuries, a fourth victim, connected with Santoscruz, was also injured. Fixed for September 24, Santoscruz's arraignment will be held at the Alhambra Courthouse where the People are recommending his bail at $4,255,000. If convicted of the crimes charged, he could be facing a life sentence. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues its investigation into this case.
