A Massachusetts man has been accused of defrauding the Division of Motor Vehicles in New Hampshire. Matthew Lefebvre, a 33-year-old Lowell resident, is facing charges after an investigation revealed he allegedly submitted a fraudulent lease agreement and neglected to secure a surety bond for his dealership operations across various communities.
New Hampshire State Police arrested Lefebvre on Thursday, and he is expected to appear before the Concord District Court on September 27. The charges include one count of tampering with public records, and one count of bond required, Boston 25 News reported. The accused is the owner of Only Dealz, LLC, an automotive dealership based in Derry, N.H.
Investigators were tipped off to Lefebvre's alleged infractions when discrepancies arose in the documentation he submitted to the DMV, particularly a lease agreement that later proved to be falsified. Further scrutiny exposed his failure to comply with the surety bond requirements for each of his dealership locations, an element that serves as a financial safeguard in the automotive industry. The charge of tampering refers to the illicit manipulation of public records, potentially to obscure or alter legally significant details, according to a statement from New Hampshire State Police obtained by The Boston Globe.
Authorities have called for public collaboration in gathering more information on the case. Detective Nick Quintiliani is handling the ongoing investigation, state police said, and those with knowledge pertaining to Lefebvre's activities are urged to make contact via email at [email protected]. The inquiry into Lefebvre's business practices remains active, and the, potential reach of the alleged fraud is still being assessed, as detailed in reports from The Lowell Sun.
