In a focused effort to curb gun violence across Macon and Middle Georgia, two individuals with previous felony convictions have pleaded guilty to charges of illegal firearm possession as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods investigations. Macon resident Travis Marcia Davis could be staring down a minimum of 15 years to a life sentence, this being contingent on a court determination of his status as an Armed Career Criminal, while Johnny Grilliot from Calhoun could face up to 15 years curated by the complexities of their prior indiscretions and present conducts, according to a Department of Justice's press release.
The guilty pleas were a result of collaborative law enforcement operations with the ATF and GBI taking point; the former zoning in on Davis, who had been on their radar since May 2022 for suspected arms dealing, hiding guns like sawed-off shotguns that he himself feared, "scared" of the sawed-off as "it will get you Fed time." Conversely, Grilliot's arrest unfolded at a highway rest stop where authorities discovered not just a firearm but also the vestiges of methamphetamine use in his vehicle, as per the Department of Justice. U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary emphasized the importance of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, detailing, "These cases demonstrate the ongoing efforts by federal, state and local law enforcement in Macon and across the Middle District of Georgia to protect communities from gun violence." Assistant Special Agent in Charge Atlanta Field Division Beau Kolodka further reinforced these sentiments, noting, "Among ATF’s top priorities is ensuring that firearms traffickers are aggressively investigated and swiftly brought to justice."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joy Odom is handling these cases. Sentencing for Davis and Grilliot is still pending.
