Tragedy struck Memphis as a man's life was brought to an abrupt end following a shooting incident on Deer Run Court. Police were called to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound, a wound that would prove fatal as he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, as reported by Action News 5.
The setting of the shooting, an area not unfamiliar with violence, has been the center of numerous calls for service. With 189 calls documented within just a half-mile radius for instances of assaults, homicides, and robberies, a number tallied since August 2023, the neighborhood's struggle with safety stirs alarm. This was echoed in a statement by nearby Winchester Grove Apartments, where one resident lamented to WREG, "You can’t walk nowhere, you can’t go out to no clubs. I came here 30 years ago to visit my sister – it was nothing like this."
As of now, the Memphis Police Department has not released any information regarding potential suspects. The investigation into this fatal incident remains ongoing.
