A deadly convergence of stabbing and hit-and-run claimed the life of a man in the southeast valley of Las Vegas early Wednesday, as law enforcement seek to unravel the night's tragic events. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police discovered the victim suffering from multiple injuries on the roadway at about 3 a.m. near the intersection of Nellis and Harmon, according to a report by FOX5 Vegas.
In the harrowing aftermath of a dispute, the victim, found with a stab wound, did not see dawn. His lifeless form lay on the street where a Dodge Challenger, with its distinct flat or burnt orange hue, collided with him. Homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson told 8 News Now, "That Dodge then made a right turn on Harmon where they pulled over on the side of the road where they sustained damage to the front bumper of that vehicle and the driver of that vehicle exited the vehicle and removed the bumper of the vehicle and left the scene and made a U-turn and left back northbound on Nellis."
The sequence of events that led to the man's demise appears to have begun at a residence on Lana Drive, where a blood trail connected the dots from the crime scene back to the house, as per statements obtained by 8 News Now and FOX5 Vegas. Subsequent interviews conducted by officers revealed an altercation involving the victim and a black female could have precipitated the stabbing.
The driver of the Challenger compounded the fatality with an act of evasion, removing the damaged front bumper before fleeing the scene, Lt. Johansson detailed. Police are now tasked with locating both the driver who executed the hit-and-run and the unidentified black woman implicated in the initial stabbing.
As investigation continues, travel disruptions persist with closures on sections of Nellis. Law enforcement urge the public to avoid the area while the search for the suspects is underway, and urges anyone with information to come forward as they work to shed light on this episode of violence that has jarred an otherwise peaceful community.
