A tragic sequence of events unfolded on a Phoenix roadway yesterday afternoon, resulting in the death of one man. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the accident occurred near 12th Street and Indian School Road around 12:45 p.m. when a white car was crushed under a semi-truck, having been hit and dragged underneath.
"Preliminary information suggests the victim was driving when he collided with a large truck," Sgt. Brian Bower of the Phoenix Police Department said, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Witnesses described the horror of hearing brakes screech then seeing the collision unfold in their rearview mirrors. A parking lot adjacent to the crash filled with involved drivers, standing by after being caught up in the subsequent chain reaction as the semi, failing to stop in time, collided further with other vehicles.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the individuals involved, including the deceased driver. Traffic in the area has been heavily impacted, with roads closed for ongoing investigations. AZFamily also reported on the incident, confirming that no others were injured despite the multi-vehicle nature of the crash.
Timmy Lee, who was mixed up in the crash, told FOX 10 Phoenix, "It was a red light. And for some reason, the truck didn't stop. It kept going.. You can't see no tire breaks, none of that. He just went right over the car. Right now the wheels are on top of the driver. They're not trying to get him out.." His poignant words reflect the sudden and brutal randomness with which such tragedies can strike, often leaving survivors to grapple with the fragile nature of life and happenstance.
The Phoenix Police Department issued a notification about the investigation via X, cautioning motorists to avoid the area. The crash site remained a grim tableau as the Phoenix Fire Department crews, who arrived to find the man in critical condition, could do nothing to save his life.
