Four local breweries, Red Hare Brewing & Distilling, Glover Park Brewery, Cultivation Brewing Co., and Horned Owl Brewing, are coming together in an event dubbed "Marietta Roots." This craft beverage fundraiser aims to support the historical William Root House museum in downtown Marietta, a landmark dating back to the 19th century.

According to the city's official announcement, visitors can look forward to a variety of artisanal beers, seltzers, and sodas at the event on September 13 – with some drinks crafted using ingredients straight from the Root House gardens. This convergence of history and modern libations pays homage to the rich cultural tapestry of the area, and the preserved house of Hannah and William Root, pillars of the early Marietta community. However, the allure of the past comes with a price – the consistent maintenance required by such a venerable structure.

"As anyone who owns a historic house will tell you, they require constant upkeep and repairs," Cobb Landmarks Executive Director, Trevor Beemon said in a statement shared with city's official announcement, detailing the challenges of maintaining the 180-year-old site. Thriving under the footfall of its many patrons, the museum needs continual care, hence the crafting of such events.

Attendees are also nibble on offerings from local restaurants like Marietta Melt Yard, Jimpa's Catfish, and Sugar Shane's Gourmet Bakery. Entrance will set enthusiasts back $35 per online ticket or $40 at the door, which includes four drink and two food tickets, details can be found on the museum's website.

The William Root House plays a unique role in bringing history to life. Not only is it one of Atlanta's oldest residence-turned-museums, but it's also the first U.S. house museum featuring a fully self-guided touchscreen tour, as mentioned in the city's press release. The museum captivates visitors with the deep stories of its former occupants, the Root family as well as the enslaved people of pre-emancipation Marietta.
