A Marshfield woman was found guilty on charges of second-degree murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the death of her husband, a Boston firefighter, in 2021. According to Boston 25 News, Christine Ricci, age 49, was convicted after a five-day trial and a jury deliberation that lasted for 2.5 hours.
As reported by the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, the incident occurred at the couple's home on Moraine Street. Responding officers found Michael Ricci, age 51, with fatal stab wounds to his chest and back shoulder. A knife was discovered near his body. The DA's office said officers were called to the scene at around 4:46 p.m. on the day of the incident. Christine Ricci is scheduled to be sentenced on August 22 at 3 p.m., as detailed by a statement obtained by CBS Boston.
During the investigation, it was determined that an argument had erupted between Christine and Michael Ricci prior to the stabbing, leading Christine to grab and subsequently use a knife against her husband. In her initial court appearance back in February 2021, Christine Ricci experienced a panic attack, authorities said. This information was corroborated by both cited sources.
"It's extremely difficult to process that something that could so horrible happen and disrupt so many lives. Just terrible," neighbor Brooke Howard-Keane told WBZ-TV at the time, indicating the shock that permeated the community after the events. Remarked by the Boston Fire Department in a statement after the murder, "Michael was a valued member of the Boston Fire Department for 23 years. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family." This statement was reconfirmed by CBS Boston.
After the conclusion of the trial, the jury deliberation ended quickly, taking only two-and-a-half hours to reach a verdict. The Boston Fire Department has expressed condolences, emphasizing the lost value that firefighter Michael Ricci brought to the department and community over his two decades of service. Christine Ricci now awaits her official sentencing.
